Update Tuesday 17th June
Introducing
BAMM's 'Leading Organisations' Network
Today BAMM is proud to announce it's latest offering, the 'Leading Organisations' Network; a new way for organisations to work with BAMM, to help sustain the drive towards clinical leadership and demonstrate the ideals of clinicians and managers working as one. The 'Leading Organisations' Network provides a corporate membership of BAMM in a new and unique way and will bring together all healthcare organisations committed to clinical leadership in the UK.
What members of the 'Leading Organisations' Network get:
- 1, 3 or 5 years membership of BAMM for clinical leaders, managers of clinical services and executive team members (cost of package varies with size of organisation but gives at minimum 25% discount on regular BAMM membership).
- 2 on-site events/ seminars designed to address the key issues for your organisation, to your specification, each year.
- Access for all to 1 to 1 management and leadership tutoring, coaching and mentoring with our specifically trained and highly experienced faculty, at a significantly reduced rate.
- major discounts - minimum 10% - at all our national seminars and single day conferences.
- A special deal at our annual Summer School - frequently rated as 'the best national management conference there is all year...' - 20% discount per person on the individual conference attendance rate.
- Plus - for every 5 delegates, a FREE place at the conference for the CEO or another Executive Team member.
- Plus - a FREE place for a junior doctor from the trust or PCT for every consultant or GP delegate attending the conference. The junior doctors will be warmly welcomed at the BAMMbino events at conference (BAMMbino is our rapidly growing group of junior doctors with aspirations and interest in management and leadership as a career). BAMM is deeply committed to improving the insight and understanding junior doctors have into leadership and management.
- Plus - the opportunity to present a workshop at conference, demonstrating the new ideas or innovative approaches to tough problems developed within the trust or PCT.
- Plus - the option of a session (facilitated by one of our faculty) specifically for your team, at conference. These have been extremely well-received over the last few years, as part of a team building exercise or as a way of crystallising what the messages from conference sessions will mean for the trust or PCT.
- Priority and free places at BAMM's 'Night School' sessions for junior doctors and newly appointed GPs and consultants - late afternoon/ evening sessions held locally addressing key management issues in the context of robust, honest discussion.
- Discount of 10% for individuals enrolling on BAMM's national Fit to Lead programme. Fit to Lead is BAMM's unique leadership development programme, designed to identify the gaps in an individual's management and leadership skills, knowledge and behaviours set against and agreed, nationally and internationally benchmarked set of standards. The gaps are filled by an innovative, personalised mix of 1 to 1 tutoring, coaching and mentoring and specific taught elements in small groups over a 12 month period. Each delegate is then reassessed and awards are made, recognising those who have demostrated appropriate levels of management and leadership skill, knowledge, attitude and behaviours.
- Discount of 15% on any bespoke, in-house Fit to Lead leadership development/ organisational development programme, based on the same principles and standards as the national programmes.
- 'Leading Organisations' Network members will receive all BAMM publications - Clinical Leader (BAMM's peer reviewed journal of medical management and leadership), Clinical Leader Voice (BAMM's quarterly newsletter), the e-news bulletin and other one-off policy papers from BAMM and notes and papers from its major subgroups, including the Medical Leaders Professional Council (medical leaders of national bodies, Presidents of Royal Colleges, leaders at the BMA, GMC and DH in all 4 countries, locally-based medical leaders sitting on major national workstreams, SHA Medical Directors and National Clinical Directors) and BAMMbino (junior doctors interested in developing their leadership skills and those aspiring to careers in medical management from medical student through to consultant and GP appointment).
- An invitation to join us for 2 networking dinners each year, where we bring policy-makers and frontline clinical leaders together for informal discussion of key issues.
- The opportunity to shape the network so that the relationship with BAMM can give the greatest benefit possible to the member organisations.
BAMM is a unique, lively network of doctors - clinical leaders and managers, who take their management and leadership roles seriously enough to invest time and energy in ensuring they have the right skills and knowledge to do the job. We would very much like you to become a part of the increasingly loud voice of practical, clinical leadership and to be an active member, as an organisation, of BAMM. We would like you to consider taking out membership of BAMM's 'Leading Organisations' Network and allow us the privilege of working with you to help make sure real clinical leadership is simply the way things are done in your trust and to add your insight and experience to the development of national thinking.
There's much more within the pages of this website on BAMM, Fit to Lead, MLPC and BAMMbino, so please do browse around. If you would like us to come and meet you and explore what a BAMM 'Leading Organisations' membership package for your organisation might look like, please contact

Update Tuesday 17th June
Well, I'm back in the office after this years Summer School, and what a success this year was. It just goes to show, all that matters is having the right people taking part; and we really did, great speakers, fantastic workshops and a fine crop of delegates contributing to the thriving and lively atmosphere. For those of you that missed out, don't worry too much, as ever we will be making the presentations available over the website to as many of you as are interested as well as hopefully featuring some comments on the event in the next issue of Clinical Leader Voice.
Speaking of Clinical Leader Voice; This conference saw the launch of Clinical Leader the peer reviewed, academic big brother of CLv and distant relative of BAMM's tradition of high quality publications. The rest of you should be getting your copies in the post any day now. I hope you'll be candid with your thoughts, comments and criticisms. We're very proud of it, but that doesn't mean it's perfect, and you're comments will help us strive for that perfection.
This was also a first year for BAMMbino, the junior doctors group within BAMM, who held their inaugural AGM at the Summer School as well as a very interesting morning of meetings of their own. On the back of this successful event plans are already afoot for an even more substantial involvement at next years Summer School as well as several other events in the much nearer future. The BAMMbino Board also welcomed a new Chair in Dr Emma Stanton (taking over from Dr Mark Simmonds who steps into the role of Chair Emeritus for the next year), and two full time board members in Thomas Foley, and Dr Yasmin Ahmed-Little.
Once again our Summer School held host to the annual Fit to Lead Awards. We were very proud to once again take the opportunity to celebrate the successes of this years class. For a full list of graduates, check out the front page of our sister website www.fittolead.co.uk.
I'd like also to thank our sponsors for helping to add to the generally buzzing atmosphere, particularly in the exhibition and refreshment area. BMJ Careers, MIAD, 360 Clinical, Worthy Associates, NPSA, Doctors.net and Dr Foster all contributed in the own way to the conference's success and we were thrilled to host them for another year. I hope you all got as much out of them as you needed too, if you didn't please get in touch with me and I'll help you contact the appropriate representative.
From sparkling, mesmerising, plenary sessions to unmissable workshops this years BAMM Summer School and AGM achieved success on so many levels. But most rewarding of all, were the overheard words of one delegate as they walked out the doors,
"That was the best event I've ever been to."
Thank you so much to everyone that made this event possible, I really look forward to seeing you again next year, and for many more years to come,
Robin Scott
Communications and Marketing Manager
BAMM
