The BAMMbino North West Night School - North West Emerging Junior Doctor Leaders
A Joint Event hosted by BAMMbino and the North Western Deanery

Tuesday 28th July 2009, The Reebok Stadium, Bolton

This event was a unique opportunity to learn from junior doctors across the North West, who are currently engaged in medical management and clinical leadership roles. This included junior doctors on North Western Deanery's Medical Leadership Programme, the CMO's Clinical Advisers Scheme, members of the EWTD Medical Workforce Development Team, Fellows from the NHS Institute for Innovation and Improvement and a junior doctor currently undertaking a full time NHS management role at a NW Foundation Trust.

After an opening plenary session regarding NHS Structure and touching on was doctors within the North West can get involved in medical management opportunities, the floor was open to the delegates to lead the questioning of the various teams. The audience broke into groups, prepared their line of enquiry and then had three 15 minute sessions in which to interview the junior doctor leaders that had come along. After these sessions each group spent some time developing the information they had gathered into presentations they could feedback to the whole conference.

Professor Jacky Hayden, Postgraduate Dean at the North Western - a regular supporter and observer at the North West BAMMbino events, judged the presentations and selected a winner from them, offering up her own thoughts on the presenters and the learning she had seen present in the evening.

As we tend to, we rounded off another great event with dinner and some informal networking between the delegates. The vibe was buzzy and the people left happy; The North West events are shaping up to be a fine example of the potential of a good local BAMMbino Network, if you haven't been yet, you really should make the effort. There's a lot going on and the opportunities to get involved are wide and varied.

Leadership Uncovered
11th December 2008, Crowne Plaza, Manchester
 Presented in association with the North Western Deanery and the EWTD, NHS North West

On December 11th we took our first steps into broadening our scope outside of London. Other areas had been politely enquiring as to when we might be able to bring BAMMbino to their locations and none more so than the North West. With the support of the Northern Deanery and the EWTD team we presented a series of experienced and captivating speakers (including Mr Mike Farrar, Chief Executive, NHS North West and Professor Jacky Hayden, Postgraduate Dean, Northern Deanery) who drew from personal experiences to offer perspectives and proactive guidance on how a Jr Doctor trying to get involved in management and leadership might take a step forward.

The North West opened us up to an entirely new group of juniors and our ranks grew substantially. We will be returning there shortly to follow up on what was an evening filled with positivity and enthusiasm. Thanks to everyone that helped make this evening such a triumph.

Delegates said;

“All the speakers were excellent!”
“A really good night, thanks very much. Looking forward to the next one!”
“Very glad I made the effort to come along. Would recommend it to others.”
“It was inspirational to hear the speakers talk about leadership giving their personal views/experiences.”
