Facing the media is one of the most daunting professional experiences anyone can confront. Even those highly experienced in this area often find it a stressful and difficult part of their work.

For medical managers, dealing with the media, both locally and nationally, has become increasingly important. Issues such as service reorganisation, budget difficulties, and MRSA, along with the ever-present salience of NHS news, have meant that being able to effectively communicate with the media, and therefore the local and national population, is crucial.

Recognizing this BAMM has decided to run a series of hands-on media training seminars that will equip medical managers with the skills they need to handle the media. Through rigorous practical training, including mock print, radio and television interviews, and in-depth analysis of the results, we will provide attendees with the confidence and skills to tackle even the most difficult of situations. Each session, catering for a maximum of six individuals, will be specifically tailored to the needs and experience of those attending, avoiding an ‘off the peg’ training approach.

The training will be led by Cheryl Armitage. Cheryl is one of the UK’s top media trainers. Her expertise is based on a long career in journalism, having worked extensively in television, radio and the press. She has worked for BBC Radio 4 on the Today program, File On Four and You and Yours, among others. She has also reported and presented for ITV, in news, politics and magazine programs. In addition, Cheryl has provided media training to numerous individuals working within the NHS, from Chief Executives downwards.
