Happy New Year from the BAMMbino Team.
If you're not already a member of BAMMbino, you can download a Membership Application Form here.
If you want to see the type of people that make up our membership you can meet the BAMMbino Board here.
2008 was just a great year for BAMMbino and as the year ended we were offered a natural opportunity to stop and take stock of what we’d achieved.
• From its inception in February of 2008 BAMMbino Membership has grown to over 200 strong and shows no signs of slowing down. That’s just a fabulous show of strength in numbers and has assured us all that we were correct to make the commitment we made in starting the initiative.
• We’ve successfully run a Launch Event, a strand at BAMMs Summer School, 2 Night Schools and An Evening with Sir Liam Donaldson and had nearly 200 people attend in all. All those events have been great successes and feedback has just been wonderful to read.
• BAMMbino Members have contributed to BAMM Publications, appearing in 4 issues of Clinical Leader Voice consecutively and with much more on the horizon.
• BAMMbino Members have attended and contributed to BAMM networks, informing on the implementation of policy with this input set to expand exponentially in the new year.
In general BAMMbinos visibility throughout the service and reputation has grown massively. We’re rapidly becoming the ‘go to’ group for supporting and developing Jr Doctors with an interest in management and leadership and we have no intention of resting on our laurels.
In 2009 we’re going to do everything we’ve done already but bigger and better. We’ll start by offering the following;
• In February, we’re returning to London and we’re going to give you An Evening with Sir Bruce Keogh, NHS Medical Director! Watch this space for details of how to book and an agenda, coming shortly.
• In March, we’re going to be heading down to the South West for The Night School South West – Leadership, Sowing the Seeds! If we’ve not been near you yet, don’t worry … we will!
• In June, BAMMbino will run its own Special Interest Group meeting on the first day of BAMMs Annual Conference. We’re going to be at the Hilton in London’s Docklands and we’re already putting a pretty strong programme together.
• In August we will be heading to Nottingham to run The Night School East Midlands. We have some of our favourite speakers lined up for this event. Again, keep an eye on the schedule here for booking forms and more details on the day.
We also hope to continue to feature BAMMbino Members in the pages of BAMM Publications. If you want to write for us, have an idea for a submission or just want to offer your talents forward and see what we can find for you, please do get in touch. BAMM Publications are intended to be the voice of clinical leadership and frontline staff. That’s you! Let us know what you’re doing, what you’ve done and how you see the changes coming at us. Email

Why BAMMbino?
In recent years, it has become increasingly apparent that the medical profession needs to develop high quality leadership and management skills in order to effectively participate in the great healthcare debate. Work by the Royal Colleges, NHS Institute for Innovation and Improvement and BAMM has called for these skills to be nurtured from an early stage in doctor's careers, but there is little support and advice for those who wish to be the Clinical Directors, Medical Directors and Chief Medical Officers of the future.
At BAMMbino, we intend to create a living network of enthusiastic Junior Doctors who see medical management and leadership as an intrinsic part of their future careers. By acting as a portal for information, advice and support we will be building on the ethos of BAMM to help create a new generation of doctors who will be able to work proactively in and with the ever-changing healthcare environment.
Our intention is to deliver a service that will guide our members through the latest hot topics, encourage their own attempts to improve services for patients, and help mentor them through the ups and downs of their individual careers.
If you are a keen medical student, F1, F2, SHO or SpR who shows an interest in the ‘bigger picture' then let us know by sending their details to
